One of the most common questions we get from new vendors is:
“What types of payments do most vendors accept at Made in Iowa?”
Let’s face it—cash is still king for some shoppers, but the days of relying on it alone are long gone. If you’re planning to sell at markets like Made in Iowa, you’ll want to be ready for a wide variety of customer preferences.
Cash is Always Welcome
Some shoppers love using cash, and it’s great because there are no processing fees. Just be sure you have plenty of small bills—and keep your money secure!
Booth Boss Tip: We recommend using an over-the-shoulder bag or fanny pack rather than a cash box. It’s safer, keeps your hands free, and moves with you as you interact with customers.
Credit & Debit Cards — A Must-Have in 2025
Most vendors now use card readers to accept credit and debit cards. It’s fast, easy, and expected.
Some of the most popular payment platforms include:
- Square – reliable, easy to use, and very popular with vendors
- PayPal Zettle – good if you already use PayPal
- Clover Go – great if you’re part of the Clover ecosystem
- Venmo for Business – easy to set up and familiar to customers
- Cash App or Zelle – used by some vendors for quick peer-to-peer sales (but not always ideal for business transactions)
Mobile & Contactless Payments: Apple Pay, Google Pay & More
Mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay are becoming more and more common. Many shoppers expect the convenience of tap-to-pay, and platforms like Square and Zettle support this feature with the right reader.
If your reader accepts contactless payments, make it known! A small sign can let your customers know you’re ready for Apple Pay.
Don’t Forget a Backup Battery!
If you’re using your phone or tablet to accept payments, a portable charger is a must. You don’t want to lose power right when someone’s ready to buy.
Bottom line: Be prepared to accept more than one payment method. You’ll make more sales and leave customers with a smoother, more modern shopping experience.
