A few weeks ago, I was about to watch a movie on a plane when a message popped up reminding me to check my surroundings because some content may not be appropriate for those seated nearby.

It made me think about our markets.

We never want vendors sitting with “down time.” There is always something to do — engage with customers, restock, tidy displays, smile, connect. Our events are about energy and interaction.

That said, if you do step away mentally for a moment and look at your phone, please make sure anything you are viewing is safe for work and appropriate for a public, family-friendly environment.

Customers — including children — and fellow vendors can easily see your screen as they walk by.

If we receive a complaint from a customer or another vendor about inappropriate content being viewed:

• We will have a private conversation with the vendor involved.
• If it happens again, that vendor will not be invited back to future Made in Iowa markets.

We don’t enjoy having these conversations, but maintaining a welcoming, professional atmosphere is important to all of us.

Thank you for being mindful and helping us protect the reputation and integrity of our events. 💛
