At Made in Iowa, we want every vendor to feel confident and ready to make the most of their market day. Whether you’re setting up inside or out, your booth is your storefront—and first impressions matter!

1. Create an Inviting Booth

Smile & Say Hi: A friendly face goes a long way. Even if someone doesn’t buy today, a warm welcome makes you memorable. ● Leave Room to Explore: Don’t block the front with tables—create an open layout that invites people to step in.

Add Personal Touches: Display a small sign with your story, a photo of you creating your products, or a QR code to your social media or website.

2. Make Your Booth Visually Pleasing

Stick to a Color Theme: Pick a cohesive color palette (tablecloths, signage, decor) to create a clean, professional look.

Display at Different Heights: Use crates, risers, shelving, or even overturned baskets to create eye-catching levels.

Keep it Neat: Tidy displays and hidden storage help your work stand out. Less clutter = more focus on your products.

Use Signage Wisely: Price everything clearly. Include product names or uses—people are more likely to buy when they understand what they’re looking at.

3. Bring Items Up Off the Table

Why It Works:

○ It draws the eye and grabs attention from a distance.

○ It gives your display dimension and makes products look more intentional and valuable.

○ It saves space so you can show more without crowding your table.

Easy Ways to Elevate:

○ Stack wooden crates, vintage suitcases, or small stools. ○ Use pegboards or grid walls for hanging items.

○ Display jewelry or accessories on stands, busts, or even framed cork boards.

Outdoor-Specific Tips:

Weights Matter: Secure tents and signs—wind doesn’t play around! ● Weather-Ready: Bring extra table covers, clips, plastic sheeting, and sunscreen.

Power Up: If you’re using lighting or displays, consider a portable battery or power bank.

Indoor-Specific Tips :

Lighting: If the venue is dim, bring extra lights or spotlights to brighten up your booth.

Ambience Counts:

Ambience Tips Without Music or Scents

Create a Visual Story

Backdrops with your brand name, logo, or a photo of you working can instantly create a professional feel.

Mood boards or mini photo displays showing your products “in use” or in lifestyle settings give context and personality. ● Soft Lighting (Venue Permitting)

○ If allowed, use small battery-powered fairy lights, LED candles, or clip-on puck lights to create a warm and

welcoming glow—especially in booths with jewelry, art, or home goods.

Consistent Styling

○ Use matching tablecloths, signage, and display props to tie everything together. Think in terms of:

■ Rustic & cozy

■ Minimalist & modern

■ Whimsical & colorful

Interactive or Conversational Elements

○ Have a “Meet the Maker” sign with a photo of you and a short story about why you do what you do.

○ Offer a “Try Me” or “Touch & Feel” area if it makes sense (e.g., textures, samples, demo items).

○ Add a “This or That?” sign with fun, non-salesy engagement questions customers can answer.

Comfort Considerations

○ If space allows, set out a small stool or bench for browsing guests—especially appreciated by elderly shoppers.

○ Use soft textures like velvet, linen, or knit for table

coverings—it subtly creates a cozy feeling.

Add Small, Thoughtful Details

○ Offer free mini bookmarks, quote cards, or stickers with purchases—people love little keepsakes.

○ Have a well-designed thank you sign or “You’re supporting a dream!” message to leave a positive impression.

We’re cheering for you and can’t wait to see all your creative booths come to life !
